The Email Templates feature now supports full Raw HTML, giving clients unprecedented control over every candidate-facing message. Unlike before, when templates were limited to plain text and looked identical across all communications, you can now create fully branded, visually rich emails with custom colors, layouts, images, and interactive buttons — all directly within the Message Templates section.
This upgrade brings a powerful, flexible editor that mirrors the lead section’s formatting tools, plus a dedicated HTML/code view for those who want complete markup control. Both views sync perfectly, so you can switch between visual editing and raw code without breaking your template. This means every email can now reflect your brand identity, making candidate communications more engaging and professional than ever.
How It Works
The updated email template editor gives clients two ways to build templates: a visual editor with a rich formatting toolbar, and an HTML view for writing raw code. You can switch between both modes at any time without losing your content.
Handlebars variables (e.g. {{first_name}}) represent candidate attributes — meaning they automatically pull in data from each candidate’s profile (such as name, email, or other fields) when the message is sent. These variables are fully supported in both the visual and HTML views and will dynamically resolve to the correct candidate-specific values. You can easily insert these variables using the variable picker, available in both views. It simply adds the selected attribute at your cursor position, ready to personalize your message.
Make sure variables are typed correctly (e.g. {{first_name}}) when writing raw HTML manually. Any typo, missing brackets, or incorrect naming will prevent the variable from resolving, and it may appear as plain text in the final message.
Steps to Create a Branded Email Template
Go to Templates in the left navigation and select Message Templates.
Click New Template or open an existing email template.
Use the visual editor toolbar to format your content with text styling, images, or buttons — or switch to HTML view to paste or write raw HTML directly.
Use the variable picker to insert dynamic fields like {{first_name}} or {{campaign_name}} at the desired position.
Toggle between visual and HTML view as needed — your template will be preserved in both modes.
Save the template when ready.
Insert the template from the lead section text editor when communicating with a candidate — it will render correctly, with all variables resolved.
Editor Features
The updated email template editor includes the following capabilities:
Rich toolbar — format text with bold, italic, underline, font size, alignment, bullet lists, and more, matching the toolbar available in the lead section editor.
HTML / code view — write or paste raw HTML directly for full layout control, including custom colors, images, buttons, and branded structures.
Variable picker — available in both visual and HTML view, inserting Handlebars-style variables as plain text at the cursor position.
Seamless view switching — toggling between the visual editor and HTML view preserves the template without corruption.
Max-width container — the template name and email body editor are contained within a max-width layout for a clean, focused editing experience.
Important Notes
Switching Between Visual and HTML View
Switching between the visual editor and HTML view is designed to be safe — your template content is preserved in both directions. However, keep in mind that certain visual formatting may be represented differently when viewed as raw HTML. Always review your template after switching to confirm it looks as expected before saving.
Inserting Templates in the Lead Section
Email templates created with raw HTML can be inserted directly from the lead section text editor when messaging a candidate. The template will render correctly in the email, with all Handlebars variables resolved to their actual values based on the candidate's profile and campaign data.
