Adding Skills to your AI Platform

A short guide for uploading skill packages (.zip files containing a SKILL.md) to Claude and ChatGPT — both as an individual user and as a company admin.

Written by Miguel Olivares

A. Claude

Individual user (Free / Pro / Max)

  1. Go to Customize →Skills.

  2. Click the + icon, choose Create Skill, then Upload a Skill

  3. Upload the zip file.

  4. Done! You can now access the skill.

Uploaded skills are private to your account.

Company admin (Team / Enterprise)

Only Organization Owners can provision skills org-wide (not Admins, not Members).

One-time setup (Enterprise only):

  1. Go to Organization settings → Skills.

  2. Enable both Code execution and file creation and Skills.

  3. (Optional) Enable Share with organization and/or Skill sharing to let members share their own skills.

Team plans have these enabled by default.

Provision a skill to everyone:

  1. Organization settings → Skills → Organization skills → + Add.

  2. Upload the .zip (must include SKILL.md).

  3. The skill is immediately available to all users in Customize → Skills, enabled by default. Individuals can still toggle it off.

B. ChatGPT

Individual user (Plus / Pro / Business)

  1. Click your profile icon → Skills.

  2. Click New skill → Upload from your computer.

  3. Select your .zip file.

  4. The skill appears under Installed. ChatGPT will trigger it automatically when relevant, or you can @mention it.

Workspace admin (Business / Enterprise / Edu)

First, create the skill as detailed above. You can then share it with your workspace.

Share a specific skill with the workspace:

  1. Profile icon → Skills.

  2. Click the ••• menu on the skill → Share.

  3. Pick people/groups, or copy the share link.

  4. Set access permissions (everyone, specific people).

C. Gemini

Sadly, Gemini Enterprise does not yet allow skills to be uploaded. You may, however, use the skill file and upload it to your chat so Gemini may use it as context for your queries.
