Add a Credit Card to Your WhatsApp Business Account

Keep your WhatsApp messaging running by adding a payment method to your account.

Written by Crismin Joy Lagamayo

The WhatsApp Business Platform charges per message, so you need a payment method on your account before you can send any. You can add a new Visa or Mastercard credit card, or reuse one already saved in your business portfolio. Both methods are completed in Meta, not in Talkpush. Each method requires specific Meta permissions, which are listed in its section.

Before You Begin

Confirm the following before you add a card:

  • Supported country: Your business must be in one of Meta’s supported countries for credit card payments.

  • Accepted cards: Meta accepts Visa and Mastercard. It does not accept American Express or digital payments such as PayPal.

  • Tax information: Meta may ask for your tax information as part of your business information.

Important: Finish the developer console setup steps first. On the Configuration page, click Manage phone numbers. This takes you to Meta, where you add the card. You cannot add a card until these steps are complete.

Add a New Credit Card

Use this method if your card is not yet saved in your business portfolio. You need permission to manage payment settings for the messaging account. If you own the messaging account, you have this permission automatically.

  1. Go to Settings in Meta Business Suite.

  2. Click Messaging accounts.

  3. Click Add payment method next to the messaging account you want to update.

Note: If a payment method is already set up for this account, you see View details instead.

  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to add your payment information, then click Next.

  5. Enter your card details and click Save.

  6. Enter your business information and click Save.

Meta adds the card to your messaging account. You can view it in the Settings tab.

Add an Existing Credit Card from Your Business Portfolio

Use this method if your card is already saved in Billing & payments. You need full control of the business portfolio or an assignment to manage finance. You also need the Manage WhatsApp account permission. If you own the WhatsApp Business account, you have this permission automatically.

  1. Click the account you want to add the card to.

  2. In the Settings tab, click Payment settings.

  3. On the Payment settings page in Billing & payments, click Add payment method.

  4. In the Edit payment method section, select the credit card you want to use.

  5. Click Make primary.

  6. Follow the instructions to add your business information and click Save.

  7. Click Done to confirm the selected card as your primary payment method.

The card now pays for your WhatsApp usage. You can view it in the Settings tab of the WhatsApp accounts section.

What to Do Next

With your payment method set, see About billing for your WhatsApp Business account to understand how Meta charges you. For how balances are collected, see About the payment threshold for your WhatsApp Business account.

Q: Which currencies are supported?
A: Meta currently supports USD, AUD, EUR, GBP, IDR, and INR. Meta plans to add more countries and payment methods in the future.

Q: I don’t see the Add payment method button. What should I check?
A: Confirm that you finished the developer console setup and have the permissions listed for your method. If you already set up a payment method on the account, Meta shows View details instead.
