Candidate Actions and Edit History in the Candidate Journey

Track every candidate action and every profile edit in one place — the Candidate Journey.

Written by Perry Santiago

The Candidate Journey holds two kinds of detail: every action taken on a candidate, and exactly what changed each time their application was edited. Actions live under the stage where they happened, and edit history shows the old and new value for every changed field, instead of just "Updated by User X."

View Candidate Actions Under Each Stage

Emails sent, assignments, stage moves, and system events don't appear in the chat timeline. They're grouped by stage inside the Candidate Journey instead, so you can see everything that happened during a specific step without scrolling through messages.

  1. Open a candidate's profile and go to the Candidate Journey.

  2. Find the stage card you want to review.

  3. Click the actions expander on that card. It's labeled with a count, such as "5 actions."

  4. Review each action row. The action title appears on the first line, and the timestamp plus application ID appear on the second line.

Actions are ordered, with the latest at the top, matching the direction the rest of the Journey reads.

Note: Each stage-move event appears exactly once, as the topmost action of the stage it closed — for example, "Moved from Inbox to Completed" shows under Inbox. The candidate's current stage has no move event yet, since it hasn't closed.

See Field-Level Edit History for Application Changes

The Edit History panel on a candidate's application shows exactly what was changed — the old and new values for each field — not just that a change occurred.

  1. Open the candidate's application and go to Edit History.

  2. Expand an entry to see each field that was changed, along with its old value and new value.

If several fields were changed and saved at the same time, they're grouped under a single actor and timestamp — you'll see one entry with one row per changed field, rather than several separate entries.

Which Fields Show a Diff

Most application fields track field-level changes. A few are intentionally excluded:

Field

Shows old value → new value?

First Name, Last Name, Email

✅ Yes

Assigned Recruiter, Scheduled At, Source

✅ Yes

Custom attributes

✅ Yes

Gender, Education, Location

✅ Yes

Address, State/Province, Country, Postal Code

✅ Yes

Years of Experience

✅ Yes

Star

❌ No — UI flag, not part of application data

Show Up Date

❌ No — recorded under Scheduled At instead

Phone Country Code

❌ No — tracked separately from phone number history

Note: Some fields don't show a diff for edits made before they were added to edit history. Entries from before that point won't display an old/new value trail for those fields.

A saved edit only creates a history entry when a value actually changes. Saving without changes, or re-entering the same value, doesn't add a new entry.
