Create an AI interview with the Interview Builder

Turn a job description into a ready-to-run AI interview: review the skills and questions, choose the AI interviewer, try it yourself and publish.

Written by Talkpush Admin

The Interview Builder turns a job description into a ready-to-run AI interview. It drafts the soft skills to assess, the questions, and how answers are scored. You review each part, choose the AI interviewer who conducts the call, try it yourself, and publish.

Before you start

  • Have the job description ready, or a campaign that already has one. Everything the builder drafts is written from it, so a fuller description gives you better skills and questions.

  • Know which language the interview will be held in.

Step 1: Start a new interview template

  1. Go to Templates → AI Interviews and open the Interview templates tab.

  2. Click New Interview.

The builder has five steps: Basics, Skills, Questions, Candidate experience and Review & publish. Most of your work saves as you go, so you can leave and come back later.

Step 2: Basics: the job role

Basics is the only step you have to finish before moving on, because everything after it is drafted from what you enter here.

Purpose

Choose what the call is for:

  • Screen people for a job: a scored interview. Adds the Skills step and proctoring.

  • Invite people to come onsite: gives the details, checks they can make it, and books a slot.

  • Check in with people already hired: first-week or pre-start calls that catch problems early.

  • Take a reference: calls the referee, asks your questions, and writes up the answers.

If none of these fits, choose Something else and describe the call in your own words.

The job

  • Interview template name: what recruiters see in the template list. Candidates never see it.

  • Role: the job you are hiring for.

  • Job description: paste it, write it, or click Generate it for me for a first draft you can edit.

  • Language: the language the interview is held in. It decides which AI interviewers you can choose later.

Length

Choose how long the interview can run. Each length shows the credits it uses per completed interview and how many skills and scored questions it has room for. The shortest lengths score language only, with no soft skills.

Tip: pick a Campaign to fill in the role and job description from that campaign's job in one step. You still need to name the template yourself.

Step 3: Skills: the soft skills you assess

Once Basics is complete, the builder writes three to six skills from your job description. It usually takes under a minute and runs in the background, so you can keep working.

Each skill has a short definition and five levels, with a worked example of what each level sounds like on a call. Click See the five levels to read them. You can:

  • Edit a skill's wording or levels.

  • Remove skills that don't fit the role.

  • Add your own with Add a skill.

  • Click Generate different skills for a fresh set.

Weights and language

  • Weights: how much each skill counts toward the score. They must add up to 100%.

  • Language level: the level below which a candidate is flagged, and how the language areas combine to make up that level.

Weights and the language settings each have their own Save button.

Step 4: Questions: the question style

Knockout questions (optional)

Knockout questions run first and cover anything a candidate must be able to say yes to, such as availability or a required certification. The builder suggests one for the job. Keep it, change it, click Suggest another knockout, or write your own with Add a question. Many roles need none.

Scored questions

Choose the types of question the interview should use:

  • Behavioural: what the candidate actually did, the last time it came up.

  • Situational: what they would do in a case you describe.

  • Knowledge: whether they know what the job needs.

  • Motivation: why this job, and why now.

  • Role play: the interviewer plays a character, such as a caller, and stays in role.

Click Confirm and write the questions. The builder writes questions for your skills, and every skill that carries weight gets at least one. You can reword, reorder or remove any question.

A meter shows roughly how many minutes the questions will take against the length you chose. If the call is likely to run long, remove a question, swap a role play for a shorter type, or choose a longer length in Basics. Click Save the scored questions when you're done.

Step 5: Candidate experience: the interviewer persona

FAQs (optional)

Add the questions candidates usually ask, such as pay, shifts or location, with your answers. The interviewer answers in your words, not its own. Click Save FAQs to keep them.

Proctoring

Scored interviews start on the Recommended settings. Click Adjust to change what is checked during the call, such as camera, photo ID or tab switching, and to see exactly what the candidate is told about it.

AI agents

Choose one or more AI interviewers to conduct the interview. Each card shows the interviewer's name, manner and language, and you can play a voice sample. If you choose more than one, each call is given one of them at random. Only interviewers who speak the interview's language can be chosen.

To create a new interviewer persona, click Create a new AI agent:

  1. Give it a name (the name it introduces itself with) and a short description of how it comes across.

  2. Click Generate a persona for me. Optionally describe what it should be like, for example "Calm, precise and technical, for experienced engineers".

  3. The persona, a matching voice and its settings are filled in for you. Review them and save.

Step 6: Review & publish

Review lists anything still to do first. Click any row to go back to the step where it is fixed. Below that is everything candidates will get: the role, skills, questions, language settings and AI interviewers.

When everything is ready, click Publish. Once published, the skills, questions and language settings are locked, so every candidate is scored against the same version. To make changes later, edit the template: this starts a new draft, and live calls keep running on the published version until you publish the draft.

Try it yourself

Click Preview call on Review, or on the next-steps screen after publishing. You talk to the interviewer in your browser exactly as a candidate would, using your microphone. The preview includes changes you haven't published yet. Nothing is scored and no candidate is involved.

Send it to candidates

Candidates receive the interview through an Autoflow:

  1. Open the campaign's Autoflow.

  2. Add a Voice AI action to the folder candidates should be interviewed from.

  3. Choose your interview template.

Each candidate who reaches that folder gets their own interview link.

Common questions

Do I have to finish in one sitting?

No. Steps save as you go, apart from the ones with their own Save button, and the template stays a draft until you publish it.

Can I change an interview after publishing?

Yes. Editing a published template creates a new draft version. Calls keep running on the live version until you publish the new one.

How do I stop an interview from being sent?

Archive the template from its ⋯ menu. It stops sending interviews and keeps its scores. You can restore it from the Archived filter.
